How to use the LinkedIn cropper
- Add your profile photo. Drag and zoom until your head and shoulders fill the circle.
- Switch to Background banner and add a wide image. It's cropped to LinkedIn's 1584 × 396 shape.
- Check the profile card preview. It shows your photo sitting over the banner, and at the small size used beside posts and comments.
- Download each image and upload them on your LinkedIn profile: click your photo to change it, and the pencil icon on the banner to change that.

Getting the banner right
- Mind the bottom-left corner. Your profile photo sits over it, so anything important there gets hidden.
- Keep text large and central. On phones the banner is shown much smaller, and small text becomes unreadable.
- Simple works. A brand colour, a subtle texture or a wide photo of your work makes a better backdrop than a busy collage.
Getting the photo right
Crop close, face the camera, and keep the background plain. LinkedIn shows your photo small beside every post, comment and message, so your face should fill most of the circle. There's more in what makes a good profile picture.

Both images are cropped and saved in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, and there's no sign-up or watermark.
Frequently asked questions
What size is a LinkedIn profile picture?
LinkedIn accepts a PNG or JPG between 400 × 400 and 7680 × 4320 pixels, up to 8 MB. A square 800 × 800 JPG is a good choice: sharp everywhere, and a small file. See our LinkedIn profile picture guide for more.
What size is the LinkedIn background banner?
LinkedIn recommends 1584 × 396 pixels for the background photo. This tool crops to exactly that, a 4:1 shape.
Can I use an animated GIF on LinkedIn?
No. LinkedIn only accepts PNG and JPG for profile photos, so there's no way to animate your LinkedIn picture. If you've made an animated avatar elsewhere, use a still version here.
Why does part of my banner disappear behind my photo?
Your profile photo overlaps the bottom-left of the banner on desktop, and the exact position varies between desktop, the app and screen sizes. The shaded circle in the tool is an approximate guide, so keep text, logos and faces out of that corner.
Should I choose JPG or PNG?
JPG for photos: the files are much smaller. PNG for banners with sharp text or flat graphics, where JPG can blur edges slightly.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Cropping and exporting happen in your browser, and your images never reach our servers.
